2012 Summer Olympics

This year's Summer Olympics will be celebrated from July 27 – August 12. Have your students increase their Olympic aptitude by visiting the The Official Website of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Have them study the History of the Olympic Games using this lesson plan.

The Ancient Olympic Games
Using an online resource your students will explore and learn how athletes from different ancient Greek city-states would behave at the Olympic Games.

Olympic Competition
This lesson introduces students to the modern and ancient Olympic Games. They will discuss the concept of competition, see pictures of people participating in Olympic sports, and compare and contrast ancient and modern sports. Students will conclude by drawing pictures of themselves participating in both the ancient and the modern games.

Research the Olympic Games and a host city
In this lesson, students learn about the history of the Olympic Games, research one summer or winter Olympic Games hosted by a specific city, and then create a brochure to present their findings.
