This lesson traces the development of money through bartering, natural currency, coins, paper money, and today's "invisible money" of checks and credit cards.
History of Money: The Great Depression
Students will understand the events preceding the Great Depression, some of the causes of the Great Depression, and the effects it had on American society. Students will also learn about "Black Tuesday", the stock market crash of 1929.
Making Money
Students can study the images and designs on bills of different denominations, and research what they mean. Afterwards, students can commemorate important happenings in their own histories by designing and printing their own bills. They can also identify other ways in which people and historical events are recognized.
