Learning to Discover

Discover a place
Mark off a square foot on the ground somewhere near your school. Have students take a pad and pencil, and sit down close to the spot. Have them make a list of every single thing they see in the spot. Ask them to answer questions like "Do you know the names of every plant and animal you see there?" "What color is the ground?"

Discover a song
Have your students look through books until they find a song which has words they like. Can't figure out the way the song sounds, get someone who reads music to help them learn the song and then have them sing it!

Discover a book
Have your students ask someone they respect to tell them about a book they have read that was really good. Have your student then read the book and then go back and talk to the person about it.

Discover animals
Have your students explore everything about wild animals from ocean life to rare habitats.
