Sentence Structure
Expandable Sentences
Language Select a student to suggest a noun, then another to suggest a verb. Build a sentence together. Add a descriptive word, an article, a preposition, etc. Then do it again. And again. Maybe the expandable sentence can become an expandable story. Stress how the words work together.
Using a Predictable Text to Teach High-Frequency Words
This lesson uses a predictable text to help students learn high-frequency words. Word learning is enhanced by whole-to-part tasks that increase the reader's need to attend to and process the print. Students develop fluency as they participate in a choral reading of the predictable text. After reading the story, students construct sentences using the words found in the predictable text. At the conclusion of the lesson, students then have the opportunity to write their own stories using the interactive Stapleless Book.
Sentence Building
To teach early writers the basics of good sentence writing beyond simple subject verb sentences.
Learning About Sentence Structure
