Ready, Set, Action
Language Provide the class with several sports pages from the newspaper and sports magazines for kids. Have them search and mark the action words. Cut out pictures to match and make an "Action" collage.

Using this lesson students will learn how to identify precise verbs in book excerpts that are read to them and how to generate precise verbs to describe action in pictures.

Students learn to identify "action" verbs, adverbs, and adverb phrases through usage.

Action ABC's: Learning Vocabulary With Verbs
This lesson is designed to help students better use their vocabulary by teaching them what verbs are and then helping them access verbs they already know and use them in sentences. Students begin by reviewing the definition of a verb. Then they work together to brainstorm and create lists of verbs for each of the letters of the alphabet. Using some of these vocabulary words, students create pages for an Action Alphabet book that includes illustrations and sentences for each of the words.
