Happy Birthday, Vincent
Art Celebrate the birthday of Vincent van Gogh on March 30. Your students can see his work from your own computer lab by going to www.vangoghgallery.com. Also, students can read Katie and the Sunflowers by James Mayhew (Orchard Books, 2001) to enjoy some strange happenings at an art museum.

"The Lost Works of Vincent van Gogh"
Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge about the life and works of Vincent van Gogh. They will also become acquainted with the use of oil paints and will be able to better identify with real artists by using their medium.

Sunflower Measuring and Counting
Students will practice measuring and counting – improving math skills and art appreciation through the use of Van Gogh's Sunflowers and sunflower seeds.

Van Gogh's Self-Portraits
Students can examine Vincent van Gogh's self-portraits and letters (all primary documents) to learn about the individual who created them. Then they can consider how first-person art forms (self-portraits, diaries, letters) aid the process of self-discovery. They can also look carefully at works of art to respond to questions and make comparisons about art and writing and produce a Van Gogh-style self-portrait and write a letter describing it.
