The purpose of phonics is to help students read new words by sounding them out. The student who uses phonics to decode a word can associate the printed letters with the speech sound the letters represent and then blend them together to pronounce the word. This book provides additional practice in the use of consonants, focusing on consonant sounds at the end and in the middle of a word. The second half of this book focuses on the consonant sounds in the medial position of words. Sections include circling pictures ending in a particular sound, rhyming words, picture clues for practice in writing words, and sound exercises where students either use the words in sentences or match the words to their meanings.
